Edge AI Vision
NVIDIA® resolved a major constraint to building vision systems for the Edge with the release of the Jetson AGX Xavier™. Vision systems require massive computing power but Edge applications require modest power consumption. The NVIDIA AGX Xavier™ is an AI supercomputer-on-module with a 512-core Volta GPU with Tensor Cores that deliver up to 32 TOPS of performance running in as little as 10 Watts.
The AGX Xavier supports 6x 2-lane or 4x 4-lane MIPI CSI-2 Camera Inputs. MIPI CSI-2 sensors are popular for their low power consumption and high performance. This combination is powerful enough to make Edge AI vision systems possible, while small and power-efficient enough for autonomous machines.
The challenge for Jetson developers is integrating a carrier board, software, and vision sensors (cameras) with the AGX Xavier to deploy an Edge AI vision system. How much development time will go into resolving camera compatibility issues?
Connect Tech and Allied Vision have met this challenge by pre-verifying Alvium 1500-C and 1800-C sensors with the Rogue carrier board for the AGX Xavier. The Connect Tech Allied Vision Camera Board is a tiny adapter board (75mm x 40.2mm) that plugs into the Camera Expansion Header on the Rogue via a high density connector, and connects up to 6 Allied Vision MIPI CSI-2 cameras to AGX Xavier applications. It supports external triggering and can be directly powered from Camera Expansion Header or an external +12V Input.
